Keep Orange County Beautiful gave away free Satsuma Trees to members of the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce. They were offered on a first come first served basis and quantities were limited.
There was no charge for the trees but recipients had to commit to plant and maintain the trees at their place of business.
These trees were about 3 to 4 ft. tall. Satsuma trees are evergreen and will produce in 3 to 4 years. They will reach 8 to 10 ft. when mature if not pruned. Satsuma trees are hardy down to 18 degrees and can stand a little more cold weather if it is for a short period of time.
Satsumas should have a well drained site. Consideration should be given to the mature height and width of the tree so that it will not block a driver’s vision entering or leaving your business.
There was a Fruit Tree seminar given by The AgriLife Extension Agency immediately preceding the give-away. Sponsors were: Keep Orange County Beautiful, The City of Pinehurst, and Farmers Mercantile.

Time: 10:00AM until 1:00PM
